Aunt Helen

Aunt Helen, Gordon's mothers' last of five sisters, has died at the age of 99. She was in a nursing home in Iowa at the time of her death and G and I debated about stopping by to see her on our way back from the wedding we attended in Des Moines a couple weeks ago. The time that we were going by the small suburb of Cedar Rapids seemed too early to bother an old lady on a Sunday morning. Now, we really wish we thought better of it and stopped; a good time or not. G and his sisters are in Iowa to pay their respects to Aunt Helen.

She was an amazing seamstress. She made both of G's sisters' wedding dresses. They picked a pattern and the fabric and shipped it off to Aunt Helen and voila!, they had a wedding dress of their choosing.

Have you ever seen that nun on tv that you have come across while channel surfing? She always had on a brown habit? That's exactly what Aunt Helen looked like. They could have been clones. I have not seen the nun for a very long time. I think she was spotted more when we didn't have access to so many television stations. Goodbye Aunt Helen.

Mother Angelica. Don't ask me how I know that or why I have an ability to retain useless information :)
