To Your Health

The general topic in any gathering or just casual conversation is the proposed health care package. I got this in an email from my girlfriend and thought it was pretty typical of the government.
While discussing the upcoming Universal Health Care Program with my sister-in-law the other day, I think we have found the solution. I am sure you have heard the ideas that if you're a senior you need to suck it up and give up the idea that you need any health care. A new hip? Unheard of. We simply can't afford to take care of you anymore. You don't need any medications for your high blood pressure, diabetes, heart problems, etc. Lets take care of the young people. After all, they will be ruling the world very soon.

So here is the solution. When you turn 70, you get a gun and 3 bullets. You are allowed to shoot 2 senators and 1 representatives. Of course, you will be sent to prison where you will get 3 meals a day, a roof over your head and all the health care you need! New teeth, great! Need glasses, no problem. New hip, knee, kidney, lung, heart? Well bring it on. And who will be paying for all of this. The same government that just told you that you are too old for health care. And, since you are a prisoner, you don't have to pay any income tax.

P.S. You may have to learn Spanish

This compares to the living out your twilight years on a cruise ship. That'll cost you whereas prison is free.
When I don't play my daily Pogo Trivial Pursuit, you know I have a lot on my plate. The good thing is yesterday was the first day in I don't know how long I didn't need any meds for my back. That is indeed cause for celebration. If the back goes out on the new health care package, will they just put me down?

I read your blog everyday and really enjoy it. You seem like a very active, involved and living every minute of your life with relish, I admire that, not to mention your quilting skills.

I do understand your negativity about universal health care. But I think before you dismiss it as gov't sponsored euthanasia, please consider that something has to be done with a corrupt system that victimizes millions. I know you have known older people whose insurance co has said, "we can't do anything to help except manage pain". There is already so much rationing going on,the system is corrupt. I know congress is corrupt as well, but any reform is a start and will force people to get involved in the process. The system has got to change, or all of us baby boomers will be told to go home and die by the insurance companies. I could keep going but I hate long comments, you get my drift. In the for what its worth column.

keep on blogging you are very good at it

Tommy, we will be doing what they do in India... just taking the "old folks" down to the river to die. Either that or going to private hospitals located just on the other side of the border in Canada and Mexico.
Hope the back keeps getting better!

Thank you 'A Nest of Cranes' for putting it so well.

I read the same negative comments on that 'blonde' Cindra's blog some time ago and was about to comment on her blog but decided not. What's the use?
All these Republicans sit on their duffus' and critize from 1 proposal to the next, YET, they never seem to have an idea or opinion to add to the discussion.
Of course, you are probably all financially secure so it has never crossed your republican minds that you are being milked by your insurance companies and this has been the case as long as there has been private health insurance in the USA.
NOW, have you stopped for 1 second to ask yourselves how can it be that these same govt. health plans have been in place in Europe for the last 60 or more years and though far from not being perfect, meets the needs of its citizens.
Everyone in the country in which I live, has to have health insurance and social security. Whether you are gainfully employed or not. It is called preserving the quality of life for all its citizens. Somewhere along the time of your working life, you have to pay into the system. It is out of this pot that the health and welfare of everyone is taken care of.
No one is shot here, sent to India or imprisoned. At present, I am a nurse in a retirement facility and I can tell you, no one, not 1 single resident is disadvantaged in any way. They ALL receive the highest quality care that you couldn't even begin to imagine. Care that you will never see in the USA and it is govt controlled insurance that provides and guarantees these standards.

You 'priviledged' Republicans are mean, selfish people who hate to see others getting a piece of the cake.
I am tired of reading your stupid, foolish, non productive comments and criticisms, hence my having to write this rant.
Get over whatever it is that is eating at you all and find some community work to do for the good of your communities and your country. Golfing, it is NOT!

You go girl .... I'm so sick of BO and the rest of government. I go into the closet and scream.

All I can hope for is that my blood disorder kills me before the government cuts off my senior benefits.

We are NOT mean spirited ... we speak our minds and have that right.

I wish he would shut up and take a break from these "changes we can believe in". So far he's created nothing but division, anger, fear, and more debt than our great-great-grandchildren can pay off.
I see that at least we can identify the anonymouse as a Dem.
As for doing community work-I spend the better part of my week feeding people who don't have enough money for rent, child care and food. In the past few months our client roster has increased by at least 50 people. The largest increase I have seen in 20 years of doing this job. They are, by the way, just ordinary people in my community who are in danger of loosing their homes, have lost their jobs, and spent their lives being good, tax paying citizens.
All of the women you so carelessly malign here do good work for charity.
One last question? If it's so offensive to you why do you keep coming here and spewing your stupid venom you pathetic snake? You spineless, ill-informed, wonder. Just please shut up and go away.
We are all entitled to our opinion. Our opinion is that you are an idiot!

I would reply to that anonymous womans rant, but she declines to say who she is. She also doesn't know me well. I have worked my whole life to supply insurance for my family because my husband is self-employed and I take care of an aging parent and two ill brothers... so I am not wealthy and I know about insurance.

I am so sorry that my comment started someone to resort to a rant. I rarely comment on any blogs, but I hate for the one time I do, to have it turn so ugly. I have this discussion all the time with my friends. We are all in the late 50s to early 60's and we are all worried about health care, so I understand everyone is concerned. I agree to disagree with my friends and we always keep it civil, I had hoped to do the same with you, a fellow blogger. Sorry, guess my commenting days are over.

As a fellow quilter, I really do enjoy your blog
