Billy Sue Pickett Kane

Friends,
I just received some sad news today that my Mom’s heart is failing. Because she is 83 and has been sick, and without an operation which she is not up to enduring, the doctors give her 4-5 months to live on the ventilator. She has been on a ventilator for most of two months. My mom has all her wits about her and is not comfortable and doesn't want to live in this way. All nine of my brothers and sisters will go to visit her in the hospital this weekend. She will be taken off the ventilator on Sunday. They will give her drugs so she will die peacefully in her sleep. I am sad, but know in my heart this is the best for her. She has lived a long healthy life and is ready to pass on. I will leave tomorrow to be by her side.
This is one of the last pictures I have of her. She was 80 when this was taken. May she truly rest in peace.

I'm so sorry to hear about her condition, but I'm so glad to hear you're going to see her. You'll be glad you did. She's a hoot and I'll miss her, but she will endure in your stories about her and all the kids. Safe travels.

I'm so sorry Tommy, but it is the right thing to do and she won't suffer. I only wish the same end were possible for my Mum. She's been suffering with Alzheimers and I wish she too could find peace.

You'll be in my thoughts.

You and your siblings have been given a great gift--to be there for her. And you are giving a great gift to her--a leaving on her terms. I am glad that you'll all be able to take comfort and strength from one another, and my sympathies on losing her.

Like a coveted teddy bear, she has been well-loved, and is now worn out. May she rest in peace.
Be strong, Tommy
