Group Quilt

I received the following from my friend Anne last night.
Spent the day at the SCQG show - (Salt Creek Quilters Guild - Hinsdale, Illinois)
Saw something in a vendors booth -
It was a group quilt - small - about 25 x 18
But, what they did was - everyone made the same quilt in whatever technique they wanted to (pieced, appliqued, raw edged, embleshed etc), with their own fabrics etc - quilted too, but no one did any binding on their quilt - because -
Then they took the quilts and cut them into the 15 pieces (the number of participants)
And redistributed them - then everyone put the 15 pieces together to re-make the quilt with a square from everyone else's quilt...
it was really cool looking - on the one the vendor had the pieces were put back together with a raw edge seam
she said some were put together with a tiny sashing that showed, some added a sashing only to be able to not have raw edges because the sashing became the seam allowance
nice, and the pic didn't have to be blown up much -
then they could be displayed together - and also everyone would have one to keep........(have to have some rules for final step so that the final display would go together nicely etc)

Ideas? Comments? Thoughts? Anything?

Interesting, and I'm willing to try. Size could be a problem. Not too small not too big.

I have done this actually and it was grand fun. We only had four people per piece this size. I'll send you a pic. I loved ours because we each did something totally different. Most of the others were so much alike that there really wasn't much fracturing in the quilt.

I would love to be in on this again- I agree with Irene about the size.

Did something similar through the QuiltArt list - Tomme Fent ran the challenge. Here's a link to some photos:
